Welcome Back to School!
As staff gets ready to welcome students back to buildings, there are more updates to share for heading back to school. Please see the following updates and reminders for the start of school.


  • There is exciting news to share: The new Edulog Parent Portal app is available now! This app helps keep you informed on your child’s bus location, including giving you planned bus stop times, live GPS location of your child’s bus as well as push notifications for when the bus is nearing your child’s stop. The Edulog Parent Portal app is free of charge can be downloaded for Apple and Android devices (using the Apple App Store or Google Play Store). You can learn more about the app, including a QR code to immediately download it, here.

  • Bus routes are being built and finalized. As in years past, they will be available on the school division’s website the week before school begins.

Before and After School Care:

  • Registration is also open now for AlphaBest for before and after school care for the 2021-22 school year. You can register online by visiting the AlphaBest website:

Food Services:

  • Portsmouth Public Schools is part of the Community Eligibility Program, which provides free meals to all students in our schools. Grab-and-go breakfasts will be available each school day and lunches will be served in the cafeteria.

  • For students taking part in virtual learning, meals will continue to be available for pick-up, if needed. Families can pick up meals at any school location.

Parent Portal

  • Sign up now for your Parent Portal account, the student information platform used by Portsmouth Public Schools to keep parents and families engaged in their child’s academic performance and progress. Through Parent Portal, families have the ability to see real-time grade information, attendance data as well as upcoming/current assignments. You also are able to verify your child’s information in Parent Portal. To learn more about Parent Portal, and how to sign up today, visit

Mitigation Updates:

  • As shared with you in the Aug. 9 PPS Connect message, masks will be required in school and on school buses in accordance with legislation from Gov. Ralph Northam and now subsequently from direction from the Virginia Department of Health.

  • You can find the up-to-date mitigation protocols and procedures for the division on the School Reopening Tab on the division website.

School Hours and Calendars:

  • The 2021-22 school calendar is updated and available online, throughout the year, on the homepage.

  • School hours are returning to pre-pandemic schedules. For your reference, all of the school hours (including times for early release) are also available on

The School Reopening Tab will hold all of these reminders, and continue to be updated as needed ahead of the first day of school, which is Tuesday, Sept. 7. Thank you.
