How our program works:

  • Students call to register and schedule for a diagnostic placement test.
  • After all results are received, students are enrolled into a day, evening, or virtual class.
  • Morning Registration occurs on Wednesdays from 9am to 12pm.
  • Evening Orientation and device distribution occurs 2nd and 4th Monday of each month from 5pm-8pm.
  • After 40 hours of instruction, students will take the TABE test to assess their individual growth.

Testing will begin on time.  New and returning students must contact the Adult Ed. office at (757) 393-8822 to register for testing and technology assistance.

Adult Basic Education Classes provide in-depth study for students who need to strengthen their basic skills before moving into GED Preparation classes.  All ABE classes are offered free of charge virtually and in person.  Classes are offered at Stephen H. Clarke - 2801 Turnpike Road Portsmouth, VA.
